I’m having trouble writing about myself.?
I’m trying to write my college application, I’ve got little tidbits of it done, more or less. I’m having a very hard time writing about myself and my experiences. Does anyone happen to know a way to deal with this. It’s not really writers block, so much as everytime i put something down it doesn’t really connect or flow, and I think I should just get something down on paper and work from there… does that sound good? Any other suggestions would be really helpful!
The best college essays are about nothing.
I highly recommend you right about something you’re really passionate about. Like to collect stamps? Right about that. Colleges LIKE weird, unusual things. Don’t be cliche and talk about the time you went to Mexico to build homes and whatnot. Colleges want to see that you’re observant, innovative, passionate, and that you embrace learning and notice the little things in life. Talk about the time you were riding a public bus and write about the things you noticed (ie. the homeless man sleeping in front of you, the old lady on the phone, etc) Be descriptive and use examples. Show, not tell.
Most of the time, it’s much easier to write about something you’re passionate about. I thought of things to write in my essay when I was lying in bed at night, thinking about nothing. I managed to piece together all my little thoughts the next day and finished my college essay that day.
