French Culture?
Can anyone give me a nice list of facts about french culture? I want things that compare to the U.S. For example:
- In france, people aren’t normally supposed to walk on the grass in parks.
- Their bathtub and toilet are in 2 seperate rooms.
- Their fancy meals last 3 hours or more.
- Dogs are allowed in cafés.
- They don’t eat things we eat for breakfast.
- Peanut butter is considered a weird food.
Stuff like that, little fun tidbits of information that could help me when I go to france. Interesting stuff.

Oh, also, French people don’t normally let guests in their kitchen. Or if the guest goes in there, it’s really rude.
Just another example.
My family lives in France. I notice that they respect others’ spaces unless they know them well. Not because they’re not friendly, they just don’t want to invade anyone’s privacy.
Yes, they seem to enjoy live more than people in the US. In the summer, the sun won’t set until 10pm. Dinner usually is a time for people get together and chat so they take time to enjoy it. Before the wedding, the couple have to go to the mayor’s office to get a marriage license and all the witness will be there to sign the marriage license with the couple. All school are state-funded schools, including universities so everyone can go to school for free. They do preserve their arts, and architectures. Haute couture exclusive custom-fitted fashions created by French only uses by designers who meet all well defined standards.
Those are some of the differences between the US and France. I do enjoy the country and people of France. Each region represents a uniqueness whether by food, art, architecture, wine, perfume etc.. They do have a distinctive flavor of the region that you can’t find anywhere else. I’ve been to Paris, Normandy, Nice and Marseilles. I like them all.
