Using chess to teach mathematics in primary schools

Chess has been announced like a miracle to help children develop their math skills. How true is it? After my 10 years of research and teaching of mathematics, I think the answer is not a simple yes or no, rather it depends on how delivery of chess instruction. If chess is delivered as a pure play and teaches in a way that has nothing to do with mathematics, the impact on mathematics learning is minimal. On the other hand, if chess is integrated into math worksheets then the effect is more significant. This is demonstrated in the observation of my own teaching and research data collected in Illinois, USA (visit href = "http://www.thechessacademy.org/Math_Data.htm"> http://www.thechessacademy.org/Math_Data.htm for details.).
A simple-minded approach to use chess to teach mathematics in primary schools have classes chess in math and chess in this case is treated as a separate project or as part of the solution of problems in place. For those children who do not enjoys playing chess, it could present problems for them since the benefits of playing chess can not be delivered to those who do not necessarily play chess. In this model, worksheets of math they have little to do with chess chess and benefits in the calculation is very minimal.
The approach solid is really the integration of chess in the math curriculum so that when children work on math worksheets, working directly in math and chess integrated worksheets. The problem is how to truly integrate mesh or chess in the math worksheets?
